Kuta and Legian may not be my first picks for where to stay in Bali, but there are still plenty of great reasons to stay here. Not only do they offer great value for money, but they’re located by the beach, close to the airport, and just south of Seminyak. So where to stay in Kuta & Legian? In our accommodation guide, you will find the best places to stay including our favourite resorts, hotels, and villas, along with the best locations.

Contents

Kuta and Legian are located next to each other, along the west coast of Southern Bali. To the north of Legian is Seminyak. To the south of Kuta, you will find Ngurah Rai International Airport.

Although Kuta and Legian may not be my first pick of locations to stay in Bali, there are definitely some reasons you would choose to stay here. But Kuta and Legian is a large area, and some parts are, in my opinion, better than others.

So where to stay in Kuta and Legian? If you can, stay either on the beach or not too far from it. Here you will get a sense of more space and openness than some of the smaller, busier streets. You will also be able to easily start and end your day by the beach, which will give you a relaxing element to your stay. It will also mean you can walk to many of the restaurants, shops and other things to do in Kuta & Legian.

The main roads in Kuta and Legian are Jalan Kartika, Jalan Pantai Kuta, Jalan Legian Kaja and Jalan Raya Seminyak. If possible, avoid staying any further inland than these streets, so you can reach the beach and restaurants easily.

South Kuta (Tuban Beach) is a great area for families, with some great resorts, and Waterbom Bali (water park) and Discovery Mall nearby. South Kuta also has one of the prettiest stretches of beach in this area, just south of the Kuta boardwalk along the beach.

South Kuta has its perks, but otherwise, I would aim to stay as north as possible, as central Kuta can be quite hectic. So if staying in Kuta, south Kuta or North Kuta (closer to Legian) would be our picks for the best areas.

Although you are staying in Kuta or Legian, you may still find yourself wanting to shop and eat in Seminyak, and although it looks close on a map, if you need to get a taxi, there are certain times when the traffic can get heavy and it can take longer than you would expect.

If you’re looking to stay as close to Seminyak as possible, then the area around Double Six Beach is the most northern part of Legian, where it borders Seminyak. This way, you could walk along the beach to reach other parts of Seminyak.

Well, that depends on you and what you’re looking to get from your Bali Holiday. Although they are not my favourite areas to stay, I have enjoyed staying there.

These areas may be busy and somewhat over-developed, but because they were developed a long time before places like Canggu, they almost give me a nostalgic feeling now.

So why stay here?

They’re in a super convenient and central location, near Bali International Airport. They are also right by the beach, which is great for sunsets and learning to surf. It’s also home to some nice beach clubs.

There’s also a nice boardwalk by the beach, which means you can go for a walk or a run on a nice paved surface, which is not always possible in Bali.

There are plenty of things to do, such as a water park, markets, a couple of shopping malls (Discovery Shopping Mall and Beachwalk Shopping Center), and affordable restaurants and shops.

It can be a popular spot for backpackers, with plenty of bars and clubs. However, some parts are also great for families too.

And there’s a great range of accommodation, from more affordable 5-star hotels, family-friendly resorts, 4-star hotels and of course budget hotels too.

So as you can see, there are some great reasons to stay in these areas. If you do decide to stay here, and if it’s your first time visiting Bali, I would recommend combining it with another location to see a different side of Bali. Places like Ubud, Uluwatu, Sidemen, or East Bali would provide a nice contrast.

We love using Booking.com, it’s one of our favourite ways to book Kuta & Legian accommodation and they have a great range of options, from luxury hotels, boutique hotels, villas and homestays.

Our accommodation recommendations below are based on our favourite resorts that we have stayed in, knowledge of Kuta & Legian hotels and their specific locations, research, hearing from you and putting this all together with our own experience of the area.

So here are our favourite picks for where to stay in Kuta & Legian…

Please note: Prices are per night in AUD and were accurate at the time of this post.

Padma Resort Legian | $305 | Check Prices

We loved our stay at Padma Resort Legian. It’s a beautiful 5-star resort, located just across from Legian Beach. Here you will find multiple on-site restaurants and pools to enjoy, but it was the beautiful green grounds that we loved most. Also one of the best hotels to stay in Legian for families.

Read More: Our Stay At Padma Resort Legian

The Stones Hotel Bali | $157 | Check Prices

Another great 5-star hotel, which is located across the road from the beach. The main outdoor swimming pool with a swim-up bar is lovely. However, they also have rooms here with a private plunge pool too. The breakfast and on-site restaurants were delicious. And the staff were super friendly.

Read More: Our Stay At The Stones Hotel Bali

Bali Niksoma Boutique Beach Resort | $188 | Check Prices
